Who was Cuauhtémoc? Know his biography
Cuauhtémoc was born in Mexico-Tenochtitlån in 1496 and died in Hibueras (now Honduras) in 1525. His name comes from Nahuatl and has been translated as "the eagle that descends" (the Spanish nicknamed him Guatemuz or Guatimocín, because they could not pronounce his name ). As if this meaning were prophetic, Cuauhtémoc became the last Mexica tlatoani.

His father was Ahuízotl and his cousin was the tlatoani Moctezuma Xocoyotzin. Despite being orphaned while still very young, Cuauhtémoc received a good education in Calmecac, thanks to the fact that he was part of Mexica royalty. Some time later he married Tecuichpo or Isabel Moctezuma, daughter of Emperor Moctezuma II, and held the position of chief of arms.

While still very young and in the midst of the Conquest, Cuauhtémoc became the ninth tlatoani of Mexico-Tenochtitlan in 1521. This after Moctezuma was assassinated and Cuitlåhuac perished from smallpox that the Spanish had introduced. However, despite his great efforts and memorable strategies, the Conquest was achieved and Cuauhtémoc suffered a terrible end.
