Coyolxauhqui was discovered in the main temple of Tenochtitlan in the center of Mexico City, along with Mayahuel, the divinity of Maguey and Pulque, the Aztec Calendar or stone of the Sun, and Coatlicue, our divine mother.
The word Coyolxauhqui means in the Mexica Nahuatl, literally, "the one with coyol ornaments." It could also mean "the one that is dedicated to making coyol ornaments."
The coyoles are an inedible fruit, which has a very hard seed in the center and with which rings are made.
Coyolxauhqui, the Venusian patron fire deity of the Xochimilcas.
Coyolxauhqui was an important deity of the pre-Hispanic pantheon. She was the goddess of fire and she had her priestess who lived in a place called Chantico or Tlilan, a dark temple where she took care of herself and kept the fire.
