The Eagle in Aztec Culture — Cuauhtli

In Aztec mythology, the eagle was considered a messenger of the divinities and a symbol of power — believed to rise to the heavens and observe the world from great heights. The eagle is associated with Huitzilopochtli, divinity of war and the sun, and became an emblem of Mexican national identity. It appears at the center of Mexico’s National Shield, devouring a serpent over a cactus — representing the victory of good over evil and the struggle for freedom.
