About Lila (Lavender) Jade

  • Composition and mineralogy: Jade belongs to the silicate mineral family and occurs as jadeite or nephrite. Lavender coloration can be associated with trace amounts of manganese or other elements incorporated during crystallization under high geological pressure.
  • Appearance and luster: Lavender jade ranges from pale lilac to deeper lavender-purple tones. In natural light, it may appear subtly translucent or cloudy, with a silky texture that can take on a bright luster when polished. These particular tube beads are offered with the bright, unpolished finish described above.
  • Cultural and historical significance: Although green jade was the most highly prized in ancient Mesoamerica, lavender and purple tones were also appreciated and worked by various Mesoamerican cultures into fine beads, earrings, and ritual ornaments associated with high-ranking figures or sacred offerings.
  • Use in jewelry: Thanks to its hardness and toughness, jade is well suited to carving beads, cabochons, and tubular pieces. Its soft, distinctive color creates a delicate, elegant contrast when paired with other natural stones, metals, or beads in contrasting shades.

Made to order: Our artisan, who specializes in Guatemalan jade, carves these pieces especially for your order. Please allow approximately 10 additional days for carving, on top of the estimated shipping time.

For the ancient Maya, lilac jade (also known as lavender jade) was an extremely rare and revered variety of jadeite, deeply associated with spiritual, subtle, and divine aspects of life.

Mayan Symbolism

  • Spirituality and Divine Connection: While green jade represented corn, fertility, and life on Earth, lilac and lavender tones were tied to the sacred realm, inner peace, and communion with ancestors and deities.

  • Status and Royalty: Because it was so rare in the Motagua River Valley region (Guatemala), lilac jade was reserved almost exclusively for the Maya nobility and rulers.

  • Transition and Eternity: Jade beads were often placed in royal burial offerings to guide and protect the soul on its journey through Xibalba (the underworld) into the afterlife.

Benefits and Energy Properties

In gemstone healing and crystal traditions associated with jadeite:

  • Emotional Healing: It gently assists in releasing past emotional burdens and stress, fostering a sense of renewal.

  • Energy Balance: It helps clear negative energy from your environment while encouraging compassion and harmony in relationships.
